Your child has a right to receive an education in a safe environment free of bullying. Unfortunately, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students suffer intimidation, ridicule and harassment at a much higher rate compared to other students.
California law protects children, teens and other students from being bullied, harassed or intimidated because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. School personnel, including teachers and principals, must take affirmative steps to stop acts of harassment, intimidation or bullying against LGBT students.
Some examples of harassing conduct include anti-gay comments, slurs, intimidation, cyber bullying, threats and jokes.
